Cove artist, Katherine Treffinger, creates richly textured abstract compositions. She layers the oil paint on with a trowel, then adds more, maybe scratching a line into it, allowing some to drip, scraping a layer or two away, or painting the whole thing translucent white and building again from there.

This traveling exhibit highlights the role of Oregonians in the decision to incarcerate Japanese American sand Japanese immigrants. 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry, two-thirds of them U.S. citizens, were incarcerated during World War II.

The exhibit on Japanese Internment in Oregon kicks off with an opening reception on Friday, October 6 from 6 - 8 pm. Hosted by Racial Justice of Eastern Oregon, a community conversation around the topic of internment, "From Internment to Detention: The Narrative Legacy of Who Belongs in America" begins at 6:30 pm. On special loan from the High Desert Museum in Bend, this exhibit features the work of Kathy Deggendorfer. Deggendorfer is a self-taught artist based in Sisters, Oregon. Registration cancellations & transfers must be made through Art Center East at (541) 624-2800 48 hours or more before the class start time. We cannot issue refunds or transfers for cancellations received after the 48-hour cutoff. Exceptions will be considered for medical or family emergencies. When a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, we will issue a refund for all registration fees. ACE will contact you in the event of a cancellation.
