LA GRANDE — Art Center East is launching Little Pinecones Book Club, a new free activity for children age 5 and younger. Theclub will meet once a month at ACE, 1006 Penn Ave., for a story followed by an art-making activity based on the month’s book.

The first meeting is Friday, Jan. 14, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Each book relates to a work of art displayed in one of ACE’s current exhibits. The chosen book might connect to the artwork through color, symbolism, medium, shape, subject matter or something else entirely. Little Pinecones Book Club participants will read the book together, seated in front of the work of art, and discuss what they see, what they like and more. Then the book club will gather downstairs in an art studio to make their works of art.

“We are thrilled to offer this program that promotes literacy and creativity beginning at a young age,” said Maggie McGrew, programs director.

For a sneak peek at the January book of the month, follow Art Center East on Instagram (@artcentereast) and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ArtCenterEast). Early registration for the book club is highly recommended. Register at www.artcentereast.org/calendar.

Find out more about this program, events and other ACE arts activities, and visit exhibits virtually at www.artcentereast.org. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from noon-5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Galleries are open to the public, and admission is always free.
