Autumnal Dried Flowers: Pumpkin Centerpiece (Age 12+)

October 21, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

$35.00

October 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm

This fun class will put you in a festive mood for the autumn season! Marcia May of Laughing Girl Farm will teach you how to create beautiful centerpieces using dried flowers, seed pods, grains, and more – all arranged in pumpkins! Learn basic structural design of bouquets, color coordination using the color wheel, and the importance of varied textures in floral arrangements. Teaching Artist Marcia preserves flowers (many of them grown nowhere else in Union County than at her farm) after each growing season and she’ll bring a stunning variety of dried floral materials for you to choose from. She encourages everyone to just have fun while participating in this traditional art form. You’ll take away a beautiful arrangement: a dried floral bouquet in one large pumpkin or two smaller pumpkins. Your gorgeous centerpiece will last through the autumn holidays (and into the new year!) for all to enjoy. All supplies (including one large pumpkin or two small pumpkins) included. Please enter through the 5th Street door.

Extra pumpkins and dried floral supplies will be available if you’d like to make additional centerpieces. Please add the cost for additional centerpieces to your cart at check-out when you register for the class. Additional centerpieces: two small pumpkins + dried flowers $15; one large pumpkin + dried flowers $15.

Teaching Artist: Marcia May

Marcia May created dried floral arrangements with her grandma when she was a little girl. She left the art form behind, but returned to preserving flowers and dried floral arranging after her retirement from driving a school bus for 29 years. Marcia believes this traditional art form – hundreds of years old – encourages us to use our imaginations, enjoy play for the sake of play, and create beauty out of found things. As a culture keeper, she enjoys teaching others about dried floral arranging and says, “It was really cool in the ‘60s and ‘70s; now it’s back in style. It should be popular all the time!”  Marcia is the owner of Laughing Girl Farm in Cove, Oregon. Find her at Laughinggirlfarm on Instagram and Facebook.
