December 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Join this fun class to learn the basics of watercolor painting! Teaching Artist Ann will demonstrate the basic techniques of solid, gradient, and transitional washes as well as dry brush, glazing, and wet into wet. You’ll practice these techniques using simple shapes and subjects from nature, such as leaves, twigs, branches, berries, and more, in a non-judgmental, no-pressure classroom environment. Ann believes we need freedom to play and grow, and her aim is to equip you with the basics of watercolor techniques so you’re able to paint any subjects you like! All supplies included. Please enter through the 5th Street door.
Teaching Artist: Ann Yoder
Cost: $35 Member / $40 Non-Member
Location: Art Center East
Ann Yoder discovered watercolor in high school. Two of her art teachers gave her a watercolor kit upon her graduation and, with their encouragement, she decided to pursue a degree in commercial and graphic design. Ann worked in marketing and design and painted for several galleries in Sun Valley, Idaho, for galleries on the Oregon coast, for Made in Oregon, and locally. She decided to work in marketing and interior design after a tough economy forced many galleries to close. Ann returned to painting watercolors professionally to explore new opportunities available to artists and share some of her journey with others. The “Watercolor Whisperer” class title was prompted by the voice many artists hear when they put paint to paper. We can train that whispered voice to speak of “studies of paintings to come” rather than our “failures”.
