Beyond the Sonnet (Age 18+)

May 30 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$20.00

May 30 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Explore writing poetry using forms that are not well-known! Teaching Artist Amelia, a local poet and author, will show you what tanka, lipogram, aubade, and beautiful outlaw poems have in common. No writing experience necessary. Poets and non-poets alike will enjoy this fun, no-pressure workshop! You’ll discover that these forms allow your subconscious to do the work of generating pieces of literary art you had no idea you could create. You’ll leave class with four possible starts of poems – or perhaps even polished poems if the muses collaborate and the fates oblige. Please enter through the 5th Street door.

Teaching Artist: Amelia Díaz Ettinger

Amelia Díaz Ettinger is a Latinx BIPOC poet and writer. Her published books include Learning to Love a Western Sky (Airlie Press), a bilingual book of poetry, Speaking at a Time/Hablando a la Vez (Redbat Press), and a chapbook, Fossils on a Red Flag (Finishing Line Press). A chapbook, Self Dissection, will be published by The Poetry Box in October 2023. Redbat Press will publish Between the Eyes of the Lizard and the Moon, a collection of Amelia’s poetry, in 2024. Amelia’s poetry and short stories have been published in anthologies, literary magazines, and periodicals. She has an MS in Biology and MFA in Creative Writing. Her literary work is a marriage of science and her experience as an immigrant. She resides in Eastern Oregon.
