Curious about how books are made? Join this fun introductory class to learn the basics of bookbinding from Teaching Artist McKenzie! First, you’ll learn about binding styles and ways to prepare paper for binding. McKenzie will demonstrate three or four stitches and will guide you through basic stitch work that allows you to create your own hand-bound booklets. You’ll leave class with your amazing booklets plus information about additional stitch styles. All supplies included. Please enter through the 5th Street door.

Location: Art Center East
McKenzie Jerofke is an interdisciplinary artist who focuses on fiber installation works, paintings, and sculpture. She grew up in rural Oregon and currently practices in La Grande, Oregon. Her work is influenced by movements such as Abstract Expressionism, the Young British Artists movement, sloppy craft, and cyber feminist. Identity, rural, and the body are her threads of research. McKenzie received an MFA in Visual Studies from the Pacific Northwest College of Arts of Willamette University, and a BFA (with a focus in sculpture) from Northern Arizona University.

Registration cancellations & transfers must be made through Art Center East at (541) 624-2800 48 hours or more before the class start time. We cannot issue refunds or transfers for cancellations received after the 48-hour cutoff. Exceptions will be considered for medical or family emergencies. ACE will honor a refund, minus a $10 administration fee when the cancellation is made 48 hours or more before class start date. When a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will issue a refund for all registration fees. ACE will contact you in the event of a cancellation. Face coverings will be required in accordance with statewide regulations current at the time.
