Ceramics: Intro to Wheel Throwing

An event every week that begins at 6:00pm on Wednesday, repeating until May 23, 2018
Satisfy your curiosity, and experience a fun and thorough introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel. Learn the skills necessary to throw cylinders, cups, bowls and more. Your instructor will guide you through the process of throwing, shaping and trimming pots, as well as basic surface decoration and glazing techniques. This class is designed for students with little or no experience on the potter’s wheel.
Dates: May 2, 19, 16, 23 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Classes occur in April, May, July & August

Bio: Maarten saw a demonstration in high school of wheel throwing and was drawn to work with clay. He has 2 years of Education in Pottery at EOU and was a student of Tom Dimond. Later he was an apprentice with Betty Feves in Pendleton. Maarten was a production thrower at Bennett Welsh Studio in Gresham Oregon. As life took over with other jobs and responsibilities as an adult he was away from pottery for a time. He has rejoined working with clay and fire for the last five years.
Registration cancellations & transfers must be made through Art Center East at (541) 624-2800 48 hours or more before the class start time. We cannot issue refunds or transfers for cancellations received after the 48-hour cutoff. Exceptions will be considered for medical or family emergencies. When a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, we will issue a refund for all registration fees. ACE will contact you in the event of a cancellation.
