Drawing Light From The Darkness: Scratchboard Demonstration by Debra E. Otterstein

October 7 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

FREE

October 7 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm

Join us on Saturday, October 7 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. in ACE’s Main Gallery for a free scratchboard demonstration by current featured artist Debra E. Otterstein. Scratchboard is a medium that allows for amazing detail.  In this demonstration, viewers will see some of the basic techniques for working on scratchboard. Knives will be used but any abrasive object can be used to remove the black ink from a board to reveal the white coating beneath. This demonstration is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is appreciated.

Debra E. Otterstein is known as a multi-talented wildlife artist from Cove, Oregon, who creates works using a wide variety of substrates such as scratchboard, canvas, hardboard and even feathers.  Feathers are the more unusual item that she uses as a canvas but scratchboard has its own fascination.  Both require intense concentration, unlimited patience, a steady hand, and a light yet firm approach.  Regardless of the canvas Otterstein captures those special wildlife moments that have touched her soul and shares them through her art.
