Art Center East (ACE) is excited to announce the opening of “Folklore in Fiber: Myths, Mysteries, Fairytales, and Folk Traditions,” ACE’s ninth annual Fiber Arts and Jewelry Exhibit featuring works by Northeast Oregon fiber and jewelry artists. The community is invited to attend a free opening reception on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit will be on display in ACE’s Orlaske Gallery from February 7 – March 29.
ACE’s annual fiber arts and jewelry exhibit creates a platform for these underrepresented branches of the visual arts. This year’s exhibit celebrates the artistry of fiber and jewelry-making through the lens of folklore. Artists were encouraged to explore myths, mysteries, fairy tales, and folk traditions of their choice as inspiration for creating new jewelry or fiber artworks. The results are a captivating collection of pieces that invite viewers into imaginative and cultural narratives.
ACE Gallery Director Jennifer Durr shares, “The arts have always been one way to tell stories or preserve traditions. In ‘Folklore in Fiber: Myths, Mysteries, Fairytales, and Folk Traditions,’ the artists explored how they interpret or celebrate cultural myths and stories by bringing them to life through textiles and jewelry.”
The public is also invited to attend a free closing reception for the exhibit on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. During the reception, ACE will announce the theme of the 2026 Fiber Arts and Jewelry Exhibit.
Raffle tickets for an original quilt by La Grande fiber artist, Joy Cleaver, will be available for purchase in person and online at artcentereast.org, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 7. Proceeds from the raffle support the ACE Gallery Program. The raffle winner will be drawn after March 29.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the enchanting artistry of Northeast Oregon’s fiber and jewelry artists. For more information about the exhibit and other Art Center East programs, visit www.artcentereast.org or call (541) 624-2800.
