At the end of the course – and after the bowls have been fired – you’ll take home at least one hand-thrown and decorated bowl that is uniquely yours! All supplies included. Teaching Artist: Alethea Brewer
Cost: $140 Member / $155 Non-Member
Location: Art Center East
Alethea Brewer grew up in rural Wyoming and was always drawn to the beauty of the natural world. Originally a non-art major, Alethea was first exposed to the possibility of becoming an artist during her time at a small community college in Northwest Wyoming. Her first ceramics class sparked a reluctant love of this traditional medium – a love that has continued to grow and develop over the past 18 years. Alethea continued her education at the University of Wyoming, where she received her BFA in Fine Arts and completed a Post-Baccalaureate program in ceramics. While she is primarily a ceramic artist, her practice spans the disciplines of printmaking, drawing, and painting. Alethea’s artwork treads the line of paradox – where two and three dimensions meet, where the organic and geometric become one, where the conceptual and observational blend, and where craft and art, form and function, intersect. Inspired by her mentor, Alethea originally wanted to teach college courses, but discovered that she could follow her passion for teaching by engaging with students in her own community. She continues to pursue her goals of becoming both a studio potter and an educator, enjoying the challenge and joy of sharing the ceramic tradition with a variety of age groups and skill levels.
