Come explore the world of encaustics! A form of painting used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans, encaustics relies on hot beeswax to deliver pigments and create textures. The wax’s color mutes the pigments and lends a dreamy quality to the canvas. Joseph artists Leah Johnson and Will Roundy will display a selection of their encaustic works in ACE’s Main Gallery. Though they use the same basic medium, their styles diverge and show the viewer a range of aesthetic possibilities using this unique painting style. Both raised in Joseph, Oregon, Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration on Painting from Lewis & Clark College, and Roundy is a self-taught artist with many years’ experience in painting with a variety of media. They both have a special love for the encaustic process and will show some of their newest works.
