Life Drawing Workshop (Age 18+)

May 10 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$55.00

May 10 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm

Are you a beginner-level artist who wants to learn the basic skills of drawing the human figure? Are you an experienced artist who simply never learned how to draw people well? Join Teaching Artist Rob for a series of studio classes with a live model to improve your drawings with confidence and expression! Rob will teach you about body proportions and how to project them in three dimensions using light and shadow to express form (these basic skills are more important than fussing over minor details of anatomy). Composition and various media will be covered, with tips from the “Old Masters.” Participants are encouraged to experiment with media and stylistic approaches. All supplies included. However, feel free to bring your own media and paper if you wish. Please enter through the 5th Street door.

Teaching Artist: Rob Kemp

Cost: $55 Member / $60 Non-Member

Location: Art Center East

Rob Kemp has been passionate about drawing the human figure since he was a teen – his subjects were superheroes then. He later moved on to weekly life-drawing sessions at an art club in Portland, Oregon. Although he has sketched and painted other subjects over the years, he has always returned to the human form: now the focus of his work. Rob has organized life drawing sessions off and on for twenty years at his Joseph, Oregon, studio. He assisted in teaching life drawing at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture in Joseph in 2024. Rob has a BFA in Design with upper-level classes in painting at the University of Washington. He lives in Joseph.
