Opening Reception for “displaying the memory of touch” by Genevieve Gaudreau Thompson

April 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Art Center East (ACE) announces the opening of “displaying the memory of touch”, a mixed media collage exhibit by Seattle-based artist Genevieve Gaudreau Thompson. Community members of all ages are invited to attend a free opening reception on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. in ACE’s Orlaske Gallery. The exhibit will be on display April 4 – 26, 2025.

“displaying the memory of touch” explores Thompson’s relationship and experience with loss and the grief that follows. Through layered mixed media collage, Thompson examines her complex emotions surrounding loss by using nostalgic imagery that is a recurring theme in her work. The pieces reflect the longing for memories that do not exist yet are deeply wished into reality. Each piece resembles a personal self-portrait.

Thompson grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and moved to La Grande, Oregon, in 2011 to attend Eastern Oregon University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Art. She has exhibited her work throughout the Pacific Northwest and now lives and works in Seattle, Wash.

Raffle tickets for an original piece by Thompson will be available for purchase in person at ACE and online beginning Friday, April 4. Tickets may be purchased through April 26, 2025; ticket proceeds benefit the ACE Gallery Program. The raffle winner will be contacted and announced after April 26. A virtual tour of “displaying the memory of touch” will be available on ACE’s website for those unable to visit the exhibit in person.
