The Art Lab: Experiment, Create, Repeat (Ages 14-18) FREE!

February 8, 15, & 22 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Unlock your art! In this class, Teaching Artist Nick will help you ditch the “I’m not good enough” mindset and build an art practice that works for you. No art or drawing experience necessary! You’ll use charcoal, graphite, and powdered graphite and dive into hands-on drawing exercises that push your creativity and help you get beyond self-doubt, using a sketchbook that’s just for this class. You’ll explore your inner voice, and then the group will chat about aha moments and breakthroughs. After the three sessions, you’ll take home your set of drawings that capture the big ideas of the class: expansion, process, and mileage. All supplies included. Please enter through the 5th Street door.

Teaching Artist: Nick Avila

Cost: Free

Location: Art Center East

Nick Avila is an artist who finds joy in the process of drawing—whether it’s the tactile experience of working with graphite, the depth of charcoal, or ink pens. His work comes to life in those quiet, reflective moments when creativity sparks. Nick believes art is not only about the finished piece but also the process of image-making (the shift from internal landscape to external representation). Each stroke can tell a story or change the direction of an idea. Nick continues to evolve as an artist, finding fulfillment in the creative process and meaningful connections through art.
