Plein Air Workshop: Oil Painting at Morgan Lake (Age 18+)
Oil painting is a really fun way to engage with the beautiful landscape that surrounds us. Join this one-day workshop — no painting experience necessary! — to learn about plein air (outdoor) landscape painting. Teaching Artist Sarah will support you all the way by helping you get set up to paint, teaching you how to mix color, and providing landscape-specific tips for painting. We’ll start with a morning indoors at ACE to learn a bit about color mixing and practice by copying a small landscape painting in oils. We’ll break for lunch and then reconvene at Morgan Lake where each student will create another small landscape painting outdoors!
If you have familiarity with oil painting, you may attend just the outdoor afternoon part of the workshop, but feel free to attend both morning and afternoon. Workshop cost is the same whether you attend one or both sessions. All supplies included. Feel free to bring your own oil paints if you have favorites; workshop cost remains the same whether you use ACE supplies or your own. Please enter through the 5th Street door at ACE for the morning session. Meet at Morgan Lake for the afternoon session.
Teaching Artist: Sarah Bird
Sarah Bird is a professional oil painter who studied realism at the Grand Central Atelier in NYC and traditional landscape painting at the Hudson River Fellowship. She has an MFA from University of Nevada Reno and has taught at Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and Art Center East. She is passionate about introducing people to oil painting and demystifying that medium and process, hopefully igniting a new way of being outdoors and appreciating landscape.
