Reach for the Sky: Hot Air Balloon Shadow Boxes (Ages 8-11) FREE
March 22 from 2:30 – 3:30 pm
Get ready for an awesome adventure with Teaching Artist Haydyn! In this super-fun shadow box class, your child will create their very own magical hot air balloon scene – no art experience necessary. Haydyn will teach students how to use bright, bold colors and cool layering techniques to make artwork pop and “float” in 3D. Your child’s imagination will soar, and they’ll build their art skills at the same time. At the end of this lively class, each student will take home their beautiful, unique shadow box. All supplies included. Please enter through the 5th Street door.
Teaching Artist: Haydyn Wallender
Cost: Free
Location: Art Center East
Haydyn Wallender was born and raised in La Grande, Oregon, on her family’s farm. She studied at Washington State University in Pullman and obtained a BA in English with a specification in rhetoric and professional writing there. Her academic minors include creative writing and editing and publishing; the knowledge she gained through these studies assisted her in creating and self-publishing a book of her own poetry. Haydyn returned to the Grande Ronde Valley to attend Eastern Oregon University where she took graduate courses and earned an MA in Teaching. She then taught secondary education in Idaho for two years before returning to the valley. Haydyn has experience with children of all ages, and she enjoys sharing her love of reading with any and all who enjoy reading, too.
