Watercolor Color Theory (Age 18+)

November 9 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$60.00

Teaching Artist Rae will introduce you to the wild and wonderful medium of watercolor and will give you the tools you need to paint in any style you choose! No painting or watercolor experience necessary. Using professional-grade watercolor paints, Rae will help you explore color theory and teach you how to recognize complementary colors and how to mix them from a basic color set. You’ll learn the basic watercolor techniques of wet in dry, wet in wet, and dry brushing as well as different methods that can be used to mix watercolor paints. At the end of this fun class, you’ll have a color chart that you can use in any future artistic studies that you do!

The class will be live via Zoom (you’ll receive an email link) and will also be recorded so that you can experience it more than once. The recording (on YouTube through a private YouTube account) will only be available to those who attend the live November 9 session.

Supplies included: paints, paper, and palette. These will be shipped to you one week before the class start date.

Supplies you’ll need to provide:

  • 1 small round watercolor brush
  • 1 medium round watercolor brush
  • 1 large watercolor wash brush
  • 2 containers (cups, glass jars, etc.): one for clean water, one for dirty water
  • 1 pencil
  • 1 ruler

Teaching Artist: Rae Galloway

Rae Galloway is a self taught artist who specializes in watercolors. Rae attended Portland State University as an undergraduate and then attended medical school in Washington State and pursued a career in medicine. Rae left the world of doctors to enter the world of art. They have had an internship with the global art supply company, Etchr, led online watercolor workshops for more than a year, and have had their work featured in galleries in Pendleton and Portland, Oregon. They started a Facebook group called “World of Watercolor, Multimedia, and More” in October 2023. In watercolor and the pigments used in watercolor, Rae has found a home that utilizes both their scientific mind and their intellectual curiosity. Even more than that, watercolor nurtures creativity and self-discovery in a way that brings joy and happiness.
