Enjoy winter’s beauty and learn art/culinary skills at the same time in this fun pop-up class at Pete’s Pond in La Grande! Teaching Artists Meghan and Amanda teach students to create winter evergreen wreaths, brew pine-needle tea, bake campfire scones, and more. Students gain knowledge of and appreciation for the natural world around them as well as learning skills and making new friends.
Teaching Artists: Meghan Ballard and Amanda Welch
Meghan Ballard holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from Portland State University and has done graduate level coursework in Environmental Education. She has more than ten years of experience in environmental education engaging K-12 science classes in stream and wetland restoration projects. She is currently a freelance environmental educator, a Cub Scouts Den Leader, and a branch ambassador for Union County Hike It Baby.
Amanda Welch teaches art at Stella Mayfield Elementary School in Elgin and is working towards a master’s degree in Arts Education. Although her main focus is fiber art, she spends a lot of time working with various mediums such as painting, photography and ceramics. She is also a mom of four and helps coach the La Grande Swim Club.

Off-Site: Pete’s Pond, a Blue Mountains Conservancy property, is on Miller Avenue, one mile south of La Grande Middle School. Access the property via the south end of Second Street.
Youth classes are free of charge thanks to the Art Center East Youth Arts Learning Fund. The Fund is supported by the Avista Foundation, Horizon Credit Union, Oregon Community Foundation, Oregon Cultural Trust, Reser Family Foundation, Roundhouse Foundation, Soroptimist International of La Grande, and Umpqua Bank Charitable Foundation.

Registration cancellations & transfers must be made through Art Center East at (541) 624-2800 48 hours or more before the class start time. We cannot issue refunds or transfers for cancellations received after the 48-hour cutoff. Exceptions will be considered for medical or family emergencies. ACE will honor a refund, minus a $10 administration fee when the cancellation is made 48 hours or more before class start date. When a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will issue a refund for all registration fees. ACE will contact you in the event of a cancellation. Face coverings will be required in accordance with statewide regulations current at the time.
