Art Center East (ACE) is pleased to announce the opening of Wild and Whimsical, an exhibit showcasing the work of Baker City artist Nancy Coffelt, in ACE’s Orlaske Gallery. The community is invited to attend a free opening reception with complimentary refreshments on Friday, May 6, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Raffle tickets for an original painting by Nancy Coffelt will be available for purchase beginning at the opening reception through the exhibit’s closing reception on Friday, July 1. Wild and Whimsical will be on display May 6 - July 2, 2022.
Coffelt is known for her whimsical and colorful oil pastel pieces. As an artist of many talents – she is also a children’s book author and illustrator – Coffelt now works with acrylic gouache and metal leaf on birch cradled boards. Although her mediums have changed, visitors to the exhibit can expect to see her characteric bright, lively animal images. “My animal images lean more toward realism now, but I still strive for that touch of fun and vivid color in every painting,” says Coffelt.
Animals and nature have always fascinated Coffelt. She uses real-life experiences from viewing the wild birds, mule deer, foxes, and coyotes that coexist around her home as inspiration for her work.
A closing reception for Wild and Whimsical will take place Friday, July 1, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. All are welcome at this free event. The raffle winner will be announced on Saturday, July 2.
