Your Favorite Things: Intro. to Oil Painting (Ages 11-14) FREE
April 26 & 27 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Learn the basic skills and techniques needed to draw and paint some of your favorite things in this fun, two-part class! You don’t need any drawing or painting experience: just bring in one, two, or three of your favorite small objects from home. Teaching Artist Sarah will guide you in arranging your objects, taking a photo of them, and then transferring those photos to canvases to create a realist oil painting. Sarah will teach you safe procedures for oil painting, some art history, coloring mixing and color theory, and oil painting application. At the end of the second class session, you’ll take home your amazing painting of some of your favorite things! All painting supplies included. Please enter through the 5th Street door.
Teaching Artist: Sarah Bird
Cost: Free
Location: Art Center East
Sarah Bird is a professional oil painter whose work is shown in Ketchum, ID, Block Island, RI, and Cape Cod, MA. She is a graduate of the four-year core program at Grand Central Atelier (GCA) in New York City and has an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe. Her work is studio and still life-based, but it combines elements of landscape and personal history. Sarah enjoys teaching and passing on the drawing and oil painting processes she learned at GCA from her teacher, Jacob Collins. These processes are realist: they recall painting styles from the nineteenth century. The particular skills involved give students a thorough introduction to oils and are a place from which they can develop their own styles.
