Darn it!: Open Studio Mending Workshop (Age 18+)
February 14 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm
Have you worn through the thighs of your favorite pair of jeans? Perhaps your dog tore a limb from your childhood stuffed animal? Spend some time learning how to care for the things you love in this beginner-friendly, open studio-style mending class! Whether you’ve never picked up a needle and thread, or you’ve already got a growing mending pile in your closet, take some time with Teaching Artist Sidney to give your well-worn items a new life. Please bring an item that needs mending (or an idea for a fun new patch!) and your favorite teacup. Art Center East will provide needles, thread, scrap fabrics, and other mending tools. Feel free to spend as much or as little time as you need during the three-hour open studio, and enjoy a freshly-brewed cup of herbal tea while you work. Please enter through the 5th Street door.
Teaching Artist: Sidney Westenskow

Sidney Westenskow is an artist based in La Grande, Oregon. She received a BFA and a BA in Foreign Language from Washington State University in 2020 and graduated with an MFA from Goldsmiths University of London in 2023. Mending serves a critical role in her artistic practice that involves utilizing hand sewing and machine sewing techniques to construct narrative-rich sculptures. She continues to mend the sculptures as they age from use in their various interactive installations.
