Oil Painting: Grande Ronde Valley Sunrise (Age 12+)

If you can knock on a door, butter a piece of bread, or make an “X”, you’re well on your way to mastering one of the greatest painting techniques in the world! Teaching Artist Aaron will show you how to create a beautiful landscape – a brightly-colored sunrise illuminating the Grande Ronde Valley – using oil paints, stretched and primed canvas, and a unique set of brushes. No painting experience necessary! You’ll learn skills such as color mixing on a palette, color mixing and blending on canvas, and an array of additional techniques that will bring out your inner artist. All supplies included. Please enter through the 5th Street door.

Aaron Akers is a certified oil painting instructor who teaches at Backdoor Studio in McMinnville, Oregon, where he lives with his family. He also teaches private classes and special events. Aaron makes special trips for students around the state to spread the magic of the wet on wet technique. One of his favorite places to teach is Art Center East in beautiful, historic La Grande, Oregon. He has also taught classes at Wallowa Lake State Park and in Tillamook, Oregon. Aaron began his painting journey on Valentine’s Day 2021 and began teaching in June 2022. He was featured on YouTube in an interview with Claudia Herber from Arts Alive. Some of his works are scattered across the globe in Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Canada, Arizona, Baltimore, North Carolina, and in many locations throughout Oregon.
