ladd marsh by tess cahill, 2024

Born and raised in the Grande Ronde Valley, artist and recent EOU graduate Tess Cahill has often cleared her mind by taking in the view at the overlook in Ladd Marsh. As a hobbyist seamstress, Tess is intrigued by the connection of fibers to the natural world. She created this print by exposing various fabric swatches to give each element of the landscape a unique texture, then drawing the details of the image on top.

Having lived in eastern Oregon most of her life, she included elements close to home: columbine, lupin and the Aspen tree.

Connected by Sophia Aimone, 2022

The eight-color screen print Connected is a representation of the linkage that occurs as a result of human social interactions. Much like us, the abstracted characters in this print explore each other and themselves with child-like curiosity in search of connections through their movement. As they roam, they entangle themselves in a beautifully awkward mess, creating a web of relationships. Through this visualization, Sophia is exploring a personal and global negotiation between individuals and societies.

This membership print is one in an edition of 78 and was printed on Stonehenge paper using Speedball inks. It was designed and created in the studio on campus by EOU art major Sophia Aimone (2022 graduate) to benefit Art Center East. It is part of an ongoing partnership between the art department at EOU and ACE - two organizations dedicated to building community through education in the arts.
