Music Ensembles

Community Ensembles

Art Center East’s community ensemble programs provide high quality, community-based music instruction and performance opportunities through a long-standing partnership with Eastern Oregon University’s Music Department. Our community ensembles are designed to meet the unique needs of the communities by offering arts learning opportunities for children aged 7 – 18, area high-school and college students, as well as community members from the tri-county area (Union, Wallowa, and Baker). Our community ensembles perform at least three free concerts per year per group, with the exception of the Union County Children’s Choir (Fall & Winter) and the Community African Drumming group, at McKenzie Theater on the campus of Eastern Oregon University.

Community Ensembles

20160307_194421Community Symphonic Band is a partnership between the Art Center East and the Music Department at Eastern Oregon University. Currently enrolled college students can participate for credit while affording local musicians the opportunity to pursue their own musical interests. The result is a nice mixture of 40-50 college and high school students and community members from Baker City, Cove, Elgin, Enterprise, Imbler, La Grande and Wallowa. The group, under the direction of Keith Van Vickle, is open to community members, area high school students, and college students. The band rehearses once a week and then performs fall, winter, and spring concerts. Admission to the concerts are free but donations are appreciated. There is a fee for the 8-10 week session for community members – college and high school students play free. All experience levels are welcome, though some experience is preferred!
