Book & Bookmark Set

Set includes a copy of The House on Mango Street, the international best-selling novel by Latina author Sandra Cisneros. In a series of vignettes, the novel tells the story of 12-year-old Esperanza growing up in Chicago. There are eight copies of the novel that have bookplates signed by Sandra Cisneros! The included bookmark – in the shape of an alebrije – is hand-carved of copal wood by artisans from San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca. Alebrijes – fantastical creatures that are seen as spirit animals – are part of Mexican Día de los Muertos culture. Each hand-painted bookmark is unique in color and shape.
