Annetta shares, “For this exhibit, I tried to draw inspiration from various cultures. I used different techniques to get the textures for the pieces including wet on wet, and adding salt to create movement. One of the pieces “East” if from my favorite childhood fairy tale.”
“East” – classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale from Scandinavia, hence the polar bear
“Dragon” — Chinese folklore referencing the magic of dragons in Chinese culture
“Coyote Steals the Milky Way” – Coyote is a trickster in many Native stories. In this one, he steals the stars from the creator because he is impatient and shakes them out of the blanket to create the Milky Way.
“Kelpie” — Water horse of Scottish origin – a shape-shifting magical creature often taking the form or partial form of a horse.
