Finding the Thread by Linda Schreiner (hanging quilt) NFS

Inspired by the poem: “Birds at the Seams” by Nancy Knowles (an ekphrastic collaboration with fiber artist Linda Schreiner)

Linda Schreiner’s artist statement: When the show challenge was announced that we were to use a poem, I immediately thought of collaborating with Nancy Knowles. We both liked the thought of using words, and visual images to explore a theme. The theme of the show is our idea of Rural. Nancy and I met and had a brainstorming session. First, we realized that we both needed texture and line to build an idea. Then the ideas just flowed. The colors, shapes, big sky, vista, rawness, wildness, agriculture, 2 lane roads, wildlife around us, and amongst us, the list just grew and grew, until we had a wealth of words and images to begin the creative process. Nancy sent me a draft, and with one small change to the poem’s title, I was able to create an image of rural. I so appreciate this opportunity to partner with local talent such as Nancy and hope this collaboration continues as I continue to explore the rich imager that Nancy has provided.
