Ruthi shares, “I saw the invitation 2 weeks ago on the Full Wolf Moon and this Dine’ story jumped into a sketch, which became this piece. I wanted to include Ursa Major (The Big Dipper), and found out that it, Cassiopeia, and Polaris depict a second Dine’ legend, “Northern Man, Northern Woman, Home Fire”.”
“How the Moon was Made – Dine’ Legend (Navajo)”
In this Dine’ legend, the people decide to make the sun and the moon, which need guardians (G). The sun G, is a strong man who goes to the sun. The moon G is an elder who needs help. The East Wind blows him to the moon, and blows too hard, so some of his eagle feathers are on the face of the moon.
