Co-op Gallery

The Art Center East Co-op Gallery features the work of non-juried community artists. As our “DIY” gallery, the Co-op Gallery gives local & regional artists the opportunity plan, hang, publicize their own show, host an opening reception, and sell their artwork. ACE is proud to offer this opportunity to any artist or group of artists 15-years of age or older, expanding our exhibit space and opening up exhibiting opportunities to a broader range of experience levels.

Artwork displayed in the Co-op Gallery show for 2 months and must be wall-mounted, as the floor space is used for movement classes. Past exhibits have included works by local painters, illustrators, and photographers, as well as installation works and group exhibits created for community-focused events and fundraisers.

Art Center East Galleries are open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm & Sat 12-4pm. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

Upcoming Exhibit

Exhibit: The Portrait Connection

Dates: September 6 - October 26

About:Portrait Connection is a nonprofit organization that helps communities pair fine artists with families caring for a terminally ill child. Through the project, artists create portraits of the children that capture both their features and their spirit. Families overwhelmed with loss find that their child’s portrait gives them strength through the grieving process and beyond. With a Portrait Connection portrait, these families will always be able to look into their child’s eyes and feel the healing power of art.

Exhibit: Art After Death

Dates: April 5 - April 27

About: Art After Death, features Union County at-risk youths. The exhibition is coordinated and curated by Theo Miller, a diversion counselor at the Union County Juvenile Department who leads its “Creative Arts” classes at Art Center East. Art After Death is the fourth showcase of works created in these free weekly classes, open to participants 18 years old and younger.

“This work is so important,” Miller explains, “because what we anecdotally see in our caseloads at the Union County Juvenile Department is that around ninety percent of at-risk youth come to us having no participation in extracurricular activities.  When youths have the opportunity to watch community members look at their art, it builds self-esteem and makes them feel a part of the community at large.”
