Wild and Whimsical, an exhibit by Baker City artist Nancy Coffelt, continues in Art Center East’s Orlaske Gallery through July 2, 2022.
The community is invited to attend a free closing reception with complimentary refreshments on First Friday, July 1, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. An artist talk by Nancy Coffelt will start at 6:30 pm.
Coffelt is known for her whimsical and colorful oil pastel pieces. As an artist of many talents – she is also a children’s book author and illustrator – Coffelt now works with acrylic gouache and metal leaf on birch cradled boards. Although her mediums have changed, visitors to the exhibit can expect to see her characteristic bright, lively animal images.
“My animal images lean more toward realism now, but I still strive for that touch of fun and vivid color in every painting,” says Coffelt. Animals and nature have always fascinated Coffelt. She uses real-life experiences from viewing the wild birds, mule deer, foxes, and coyotes that coexist around her home as inspiration for her work.
This artist talk by “Wild & Whimsical” featured artist Nancy Coffelt is part of Art Center East’s 2022 Artist Talk Series. The Artist Talk Series includes ten separate artist talks (in-person or virtual) from June through November. Each artist will speak in-depth about their work, medium, process, and influences. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and speak with the featured artist. Series made possible in part by Oregon Humanities.
Raffle tickets for an original painting by Nancy Coffelt, “Two Downys,” continue to be available until the end of the exhibit’s closing reception. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Art Center East’s Youth Programming. The raffle winner will be announced on Saturday, July 2. Tickets can be purchased in person at Art Center East or online at https://artcentereast.org/
