Beginner’s Sewing (Age 12+)

September 3 from 2:30 – 5:30 pm

Learn to sew! This fun class teaches you the basics of sewing with techniques you’ll be able to use for years to come. We’ll be making a pillowcase that you may want to give as a gift (or perhaps keep for yourself)! At the end of class, you’ll take your pillowcase and the pattern home. Pillowcases make great gifts for the holiday season. Supply list located at artcentereast.org/calendar. Please enter through the 5th Street door.

Teaching Artist: Tracy McKenzie

Tracy McKenzie has taught various subjects for more than a decade and she is passionate about sharing her love of quilting with the community. Tracy’s beautiful quilts demonstrate her strong skills in the foundations of quilting, and she continues to learn new skills all the time. She enjoys sharing warmth and love with her students.

Supplies:

Fabric and Thread:

• Body: 3/4 yard
• Cuff: 1/3 yard
• Trim (optional): 2” – 2.5 ” x WOF (Width of Fabric)
• Sewing thread to match your project: I recommend Aurifil if you need thread
• Sewing needles for your machine (80/13 Topstitch or 80/13 Microtex needles)

• Sewing Machine
• Power cord and foot pedal for your machine
• Owner’s manual (downloaded or printed)
• 1/4” Sewing foot: makes it easier if you have one for your machine
• Bobbin for your machine
• Sewing pins
• Seam ripper
• Willingness to learn and have fun!

• Rotary cutter
• Point turner
