Ekphrastic Poetry: Inspiration from Jessica Plattner (Age 18+)

Get inspired to write some poetry! Beautiful paintings by artist Jessica Plattner will be your inspiration and Teaching Artist Amelia will be your guide. No poetry writing experience necessary. Jessica’s paintings, currently on display in ACE’s Main Gallery, are evocative and lyrical in a visual way that translates beautifully into poetry. Amelia will share examples of ekphrastic poetry as an introduction to the form — ekphrastic poems are those written about works of art.
Writing prompts and specific instructions will get you started on poems about Jessica’s paintings. Amelia (a published poet and writer herself) will be available to help you. This fun class introduces you to the beautiful relationship between the visual arts and poetry. You’ll leave class with drafts of your very own poems! Please bring a notebook and writing utensils. Please enter through the Penn Avenue door.

Registration cancellations & transfers must be made through Art Center East at (541) 624-2800 48 hours or more before the class start time. We cannot issue refunds or transfers for cancellations received after the 48-hour cutoff. Exceptions will be considered for medical or family emergencies. ACE will honor a refund, minus a $10 administration fee when the cancellation is made 48 hours or more before class start date. When a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will issue a refund for all registration fees. ACE will contact you in the event of a cancellation. Face coverings will be required in accordance with statewide regulations current at the time.
