Online Classes: Orientation for Teaching Artists

October 20, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Are you interested in teaching an online class with ACE but aren’t sure what that means or how to do it? Join us for a free orientation to learn more about this option and get inspired! We will meet online via Zoom and a panel of ACE board members and staff will discuss: the logistics of facilitating an online class (including an introduction to Zoom), what has been challenging about transitioning to the format, and what new & exciting opportunities it offers both teachers and students. We will leave plenty of time to answer your questions and help brainstorm how your class idea(s) could work online.

Any prospective Teaching Artist is welcome to attend, even if you have never taught with us before (and even if you don’t live nearby!). Please note that the orientation will be recorded so we can share it with other prospective online teachers – by participating, you are consenting to be included in that recording (there are options to participate without video, but voice interactions will be included in the recording).

Why participate in the live meeting (rather than waiting for the recording)? Your participation is what will make this orientation better and more useful for others! And, by showing up, you’ll get to ask all of your own questions and get personalized feedback and ideas in real time.

Bring your questions, hesitations, anxieties, and concerns about teaching online; we will do our best to address every one of them!

Trouble joining the meeting? Email Sarah ([email protected]) – I’ll be checking as the meeting gets started and can help you troubleshoot if you have an issue.

Panel:

Nancy Knowles – Art Center East Board President and Professor of English at EOU. Nancy brings extensive knowledge in running an online classroom.

Laura Hudson – Art Center East Board Member and Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. Laura is an experienced ACE Teaching Artist and has taught (and delivered sermons) via online platforms.

Sarah West – Sarah is a part-time staff at Art Center East and an experienced Teaching Artist. She is still learning about teaching online but, having taught one class so far, is excited about the possibilities online teaching presents.
