Pop-up Storytelling about Home to Benefit Town of Wallowa

September 17, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join community members for an evening of stories related to the theme of “home”! Art Center East is hosting a pop-up community conversation on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 PM at The Local, 1508 Adams Ave. This event is free with donations encouraged.

Light refreshments, including ice cream and beer, will be available for purchase. Featured storytellers will speak, followed by an open mic.

Cash donations will be collected to support residents in the town of Wallowa (pop. 800) whose lives were devastated by a hailstorm.

On Aug. 11, hail the size of golf balls smashed west-facing windows and destroyed windshields and car windows. Many trailer homes and cars are a total loss. Residents of Wallowa are low-income and/or retired, and the community has limited public transportation and public services. Since the storm, friends and neighbors from across the country have helped with clean-up and donations. $70,000 has been raised, but donations are dwindling and need remains.

Community members who cannot attend may contribute to the town’s GoFundMe website: https://www.gofundme.com/f/hailstormstricken-town-of-wallowa-needs-help. The fund is administered as a micro-grant program by the Lostine Presbyterian Church.

This storytelling event is one of a series sponsored by Oregon Humanities.
