The ACE Writing Project invites you to a reading with Pendleton poet, Shaindel Beers, at 7:00 pm on September 16. Shaindel was a finalist in the 2020 Oregon Book Awards (the only Eastern Oregon author to receive that honor this year) for her most recent book of poems, Secure Your Own Mask.
This is a free online event that will take place live via Zoom. Please click on the attached link to access the reading any time after 6:45 pm on September 16. Contact [email protected] with questions.
Audience members will be invited to participate in an open mic following the reading / Q&A. Folks who attended the August Writing Project challenged each other to compose a pantoum to share in September. We’ll give the first open mic slots to pantoum writers (Google “pantoum” if you’d like to take the challenge!) – signup starts at 6:45 pm.
Shaindel Beers’ poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. She is currently an instructor of English at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon, in Eastern Oregon’s high desert and serves as Poetry Editor of Contrary. A Brief History of Time, her first full-length poetry collection, was released by Salt Publishing in 2009. Her second collection, The Children’s War and Other Poems, was released in February of 2013. Her most recent collection, Secure Your Own Mask, won the White Pine Poetry Prize for 2017.

It is always free, and for the foreseeable future it will continue to take place digitally rather than in person. All are welcome – please join us!
