Teen Wild School (Age 12-16)

Teen Wild School is a fun summer program connecting teens with nature through art and ecological investigations. The activities – such as place-based art projects, maker spaces, journaling time, and native plant garden design – encourage young people to express their creativity and individuality. The program provides a safe, informal, and inclusive summer activity for teens. All supplies included.

Teaching Artist: Meghan Ballard and Amanda Welch

Meghan Ballard holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from Portland State University and has done graduate level coursework in Environmental Education. She has more than ten years of experience in environmental education engaging K-12 science classes in stream and wetland restoration projects. She is currently a freelance environmental educator, a Cub Scouts Den Leader, a Board member of the Blue Mountains Conservancy, and a mother of two.

Amanda Welch teaches art at Stella Mayfield Elementary School in Elgin, Oregon, and has a master’s degree in Arts Education. Although her main focus is fiber art, she spends a lot of time working with various mediums such as painting, photography and ceramics. She is also a mom of four and helps coach the La Grande Swim Club.

Free youth classes are funded by the Art Center East Youth Arts Learning Fund. The Fund is supported by the Avista Foundation, Autzen Foundation, Blue Mountain Bottled Water, Eastern Oregon University, Grande Ronde Med Spa, Haley Hines at Blue Summit Realty, JTMF Foundation, Koza Family Dental, La Grande School District, Miller Foundation, Nate Conklin at State Farm, Optimist International of La Grande, R&C Family Store, Soroptimist International of La Grande, Tanner Willson at Edward Jones, Walmart, and community member donations.

Off-Site: Pete’s Pond, a Blue Mountains Conservancy property, is located at 913 South Miller Drive in La Grande

Registration cancellations & transfers must be made through Art Center East at (541) 624-2800 48 hours or more before the class start time. We cannot issue refunds or transfers for cancellations received after the 48-hour cutoff. Exceptions will be considered for medical or family emergencies. ACE will honor a refund, minus a $10 administration fee when the cancellation is made 48 hours or more before class start date. When a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will issue a refund for all registration fees. ACE will contact you in the event of a cancellation. Face coverings will be required in accordance with statewide regulations current at the time.
