BEGINNING SASHIKO (AGE 16+)Sunday, Feb. 27, 1-4 p.m.
Anderson Perry Annex 1901 N. Fir St.
Get acquainted with sashiko — a decorative and beautiful Japanese stitching technique — in this make-and-take class. Students will learn two traditional sashiko patterns and leave with a finished project, starter kit and sashiko book to continue practicing at home. No experience necessary. All supplies included. This is the first in a series of needle art classes.
Cost: $60 member, $75 non-member
WEEKEND WATERCOLOR CELEBRATION (AGE 14+)Saturday, March 5, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Described as a memorable, positive day of improving your painting skills and enjoying watercolors, this workshop’s painting presentations and group discussion are for beginning and advanced students alike. Teaching artist Paul Hoelscher will have still life materials on hand to paint from but feel free to bring your own material, photograph or painting project. Students will receive professional help with the project (individual projects are welcome).
Cost: $70 member, $85 non-member
MACRAME AND MIMOSAS (AGES 21+)Saturday, March 5 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
In this two-hour workshop, students will learn the basics of macrame and create a handmade plant hanger to take home. All supplies included. Teaching artist is Katie Hall.
Cost: $30 member, $35 non-member
GLASS PAPERWEIGHT GROUP WORKSHOP (AGE 8+)There are six chances in March to make a colorful, handcrafted glass paperweight with Kevin Boylan at his Birddog Glass Studio, 702 Adams Ave., La Grande. Sessions are set for Sundays, March 6, 13 and 27. There are two time slots each day: 11 a.m.-1:20 p.m. or 1:40-4 p.m.
Participants will complete their paperweights in a single session. Students will work as a group with Boylan to explore color, design, process and a variety of paperweight shapes. No experience is required.
A minimum of seven students is required for each time slot. Cost per session is $50 per person.
THE BAKER’S PALETTE: INTRO TO WHOLE-GRAIN FLOURS (AGE 12+)Sunday, March 6 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Explore whole grains by preparing one recipe three ways, each featuring a different whole grain flour. Teaching artist Sarah West will give instruction for students as they prepare a simple biscuit recipe three times at home.
