Art Center East presents Farmers Markets in Fiber, our 4th Annual Fiber Arts & Jewelry Exhibit. The exhibit invited artists to use photographs taken at a regional farmers market as a springboard to create new works in fiber.

We know that the Grande Ronde Valley is home to a vibrant community of artists. In homage to the wealth of talent that makes our little city so “La Grande,” The Big is our annual showcase of local artworks in all mediums.

Prints from Crow’s Shadow Press highlights a diverse cross-section of Artists-in-Residence who have made prints at Crow’s Shadow. This exhibition features contemporary artists from Oregon, as well as nationally recognized Native American artists from around the country.

One of that Valley’s newest artists, John Richey recently moved to Cove from Tallahassee, Florida. An abstract sculptor and painter, Richey’s work encompasses an improvisational, three-dimensional approach to both of his mediums.

The annual EOU Junior Art Exhibition this year is titled Unearthed. Seven EOU students are presenting pieces for the event: Mariela Caldera, Hannah Flower, Christina Gillis Nunez, Meredith Matthews, Alexander Navarro, Hannah Smith, and Olivia Starks.

Art Center East is excited to feature the Third Annual Fiber Arts & Jewelry Exhibit: Fiber Goes Vogue. This exhibition showcases a collection of works made by regional fiber and jewelry artists. As inspiration for their work, each artist selected a page from Vogue; the iconic fashion and lifestyle magazine.

Come explore the world of encaustics! A form of painting used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans, encaustics relies on hot beeswax to deliver pigments and create textures.

Megan's passion for art and science stems from a single, driving curiosity about the natural world. Her current work focuses on the intersection of hunting and ecology, and how traditional hunting practices can provide valuable information and datasets.

Pendleton artist Nika Blasser's work seeks out natural forms that result, sometimes unexpectedly, from the process of exploring her chosen medium. In addition to her artwork, she currently serves as the Marketing Director at Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts.  

Stephen Wadner is a clock maker, but not the usual sort. Using found objects - old toasters, telephones, toys, or twinkie boxes - Wadner transforms “junk” into sleek, playful designs that imbue a sense of refinement greater than the sum of its parts. Exhibit runs Feb. 2 - 23 in the main gallery.

A native of Joseph, Oregon, Isaak is no stranger to impressive scenery, a fondness for which is obvious in her mixed media compositions. Abstract works that capture both the grandeur and intricacy of big landscapes, Isaak holds a fascination with mountains and oceans throughout her body of work, exploring their shapes, movement, and contours through a painting technique known as fluid acrylics.

“My work is concerned with a sense of place. I am fascinated by people’s connection to geography and particular places they find meaningful. I think about ideas, forces and people gathering and dispersing. The work in this show explores this concept of gathering spaces, of this coming together, dispersing, transforming and reconnecting." Runs August 4 - Sept. 8.

Instead of drawing from day-to-day life or even conscious imagination, Sykes seeks his inspiration at the margins of his mind—
images that come to him in dreams or in a flash of unconscious thought, “Like a slide show.” Sykes draws these fleeting, picturelike images from memory, creating abstract compositions. On display from June 9 - July 28th.

Hiroko Cannon has been painting seriously for more than 10 years, studying the plants and animals of the Plateau region while developing her style and technique. Informed by the simplicity of her Japanese aesthetic, this show will feature high quality reproductions using archival ink on cotton rag paper.
